Why Your Skin Is Breaking Out More Since You Started WFH

Spoiler: it's not just stress. Here's what's actually happening to your skin barrier when you work from home — and how to fix it.

When you work from home, your skin is exposed to a whole new set of stressors that most people never think about. Indoor air is drier than outside air, especially with AC or heat running all day, and that constant dryness quietly strips your skin barrier without you even noticing. Add in the blue light from your screen, the fact that you're probably touching your face more, and the stress of back-to-back meetings — and suddenly your skin is reacting in ways it never did when you were commuting to an office.

The fix isn't complicated, but it does require intention. Start by adding a humidifier to your workspace — it makes a bigger difference than any serum. Swap your morning cleanser for something gentler since you're not dealing with outdoor pollution the same way. And if you're breaking out along your jawline or chin specifically, that's almost always stress and hormones, not dirt. Treat it from the inside out: water, sleep, and stress management will do more than any spot treatment.
